چکیده

High-speed networks, such as ATM networks, are expected to support diverse Quality of Service (QoS) constraints, including real-time QoS guarantees. Real-time QoS is required by many applications such as those that involve voice and video communication. To support such services, routing algorithms that allow applications to reserve the needed bandwidth over a Virtual Circuit (VC) have been proposed. Commonly, these bandwidth-reservation algorithms assign VCs to routes using the least-loaded concept, and thus result in balancing the load over the set of all candidate routes. In this paper, we show that for such reservation-based protocols|which allow for the exclusive use of a preset fraction of a resource's bandwidth for an extended period of time|load balancing is not desirable as it results in resource fragmentation, which adversely a ects the likelihood of accepting new reservations. In particular, we show that load-balancing VC routing algorithms are not appropriate when the main objective of the routing protocol is to increase the probability of nding routes that satisfy incoming VC requests, as opposed to equalizing the bandwidth utilization along the various routes. We present an on-line VC routing scheme that is based on the concept of \load pro ling", which allows a distribution of \available" bandwidth across a set of candidate routes to match the characteristics of incoming VC QoS requests. We show the e ectiveness of our load-pro ling approach when compared to traditional load-balancing and load-packing VC routing schemes.

An Efficient Cluster Head Selection Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks Using Fuzzy Inference Systems

An efficient cluster head selection algorithm in wireless sensor networks is proposed in this paper. The implementation of the proposed algorithm can improve energy which allows the structured representation of a network topology. According to the residual energy, number of the neighbors, and the centrality of each node, the algorithm uses Fuzzy Inference Systems to select cluster head. The alg...

Load-Frequency Control: a GA based Bayesian Networks Multi-agent System

Bayesian Networks (BN) provides a robust probabilistic method of reasoning under uncertainty. They have been successfully applied in a variety of real-world tasks but they have received little attention in the area of load-frequency control (LFC). In practice, LFC systems use proportional-integral controllers. However since these controllers are designed using a linear model, the nonlinearities...

Quality of service and routing in wireless mesh networks. (Qualité de service et routage dans les réseaux maillés sans fil)

Wireless mesh networks are a promising technology for providing last-mile broadband wireless Internet to a large number of users spread across large geographical regions. Due to their peculiar limitations and the increasing demand of users for high performance (high throughput, low delays etc), mesh networks have attracted the attention of researchers world-wide. Towards this goal, this dissert...

This investigation presents a heuristic method for consumable resource allocation problem in multi-class dynamic Project Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) networks, where new projects from different classes (types) arrive to system according to independent Poisson processes with different arrival rates. Each activity of any project is operated at a devoted service station located in a n...

Adaptive Route Selection Policy Based on Back Propagation Neural Networks

One of the key issues in the study of multiple route protocols in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) is how to select routes to the packet transmission destination. There are currently two route selection methods: primary routing policy and load-balancing policy. Many ad hoc routing protocols are based on primary (fastest or shortest but busiest) routing policy from the self-standpoint of traffic ...
